President Reagan is often described as a bold and unwavering champion of freedom and liberty. The Freedom Foundation of Minnesota seeks to encourage students to learn about that legacy of leadership and the lasting effects of his presidential policies. | Tis the Season but Tanning Tax Takes a Toll as Dozens of Small Businesses Fold
The federal health care bill that we had to pass so we could “see what was in it” continues to have a negative impact in the everyday lives of Minnesotans. In this particular case, a tax on tanning salons tucked away in the Obamacare bill has been a major factor in the sharp spike of tanning salons shutting their doors since 2009, meaning fewer jobs and fewer places for tanners to catch some rays. | Speaking of Obamacare…
A recent report showed the number of uninsured children in Minnesota has risen sharply since passage of President Obama’s landmark legislation. Minnesota was the only state since 2008 that showed a significant rise in the number of uninsured children (nearly 84,000), raising the total number of uninsured children from 5.8 percent to 6.6 percent. According to the report, 34 other states have decreased the number of uninsured children. The study used US Census American Community Survey data from 2008 to 2010. Though DFL lawmakers are quick to blame the rise in uninsured on the economy and recent health care reforms passed by the Minnesota legislature, they should not be so quick to discount the impact of Obamacare, which was intended to make it easier to insure all children. As those of us who advocate for limited government believe, health care freedom, choice and more affordable private insurance options are the solution, not more government bureaucracy.

| New conservative website to help fight liberal academia on college campuses
College students now have a new ally against liberal indoctrination on their college campuses. A new website, “The College Conservative,” provides college students across the country a place to share and express their conservative views that are not always welcomed in the classroom. The site launched Monday with already 30 student contributors. Editor Zachary Freeman, a student at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga says the plan is to publish three articles per weekday. “The ultimate goal of this project [is] to create and prepare leaders for the upcoming generations so they can be heard in politics,” Freeman told The Daily Caller. FFM CEO Annette Meeks appeared on John Williams’ show on WCCO radio earlier this week discussing Herman Cain, Jon Huntsman and the rest of the GOP presidential field. She and Williams also had a candid discussion on the dysfunctional presidential primary process and how it could be more effective. Meeks was also the feature of a Star Tribune piece on presidential candidate and her old boss Speaker Newt Gingrich.
