California Dreaming – Residents Fleeing in Droves

Census data revealed that nearly 700,000 people left California during the pandemic. An analysis by Fair Lines America Foundation found that California will lose 5 seats in 2030 if those trends continue.

Experts say the biggest reasons are high housing costs, poor schools, and taxes.

The once attractive appeal of the Golden State seems to be tarnishing. “It’s just not sustainable in terms of cost of living,” said one Californian moving to Texas.

Since April 2020, nearly 700,000 people have fled California.

During that same time, almost 557,000 New Yorkers left their state as well.

The two states they are fleeing to? Texas and Florida. Florida has seen nearly 800,000 Americans transplant there in the past two years while Texas has seen almost 640,000 Americans.

“I always say that you need to make celebrity money to live comfortably in California,” one resident said.
