Faced with half a million dollars in budget cuts, the Cloquet School District has had to consider cutting several programs. According to the Pine County Journal, one of the “most controversial” cuts was the discontinuation of the orchestra program. The cheerleading program would also receive cuts. Community Education Director Sara Liimatainen has indicated the programs may be offered in conjunction with other area cities.
As Superintendent Ken Scarbrough stated, “Any budget reduction that our board looks at is painful and you have to give it due consideration.”
Unfortunately, in these tough economic times, families are being forced to do more with less. Many school districts around the state will also have to do the same.
