A report was issued last year that studied the adoption of broadband as well as the jobs created by municipal broadband.
The report was produced by the Technology Policy Institute.
It won’t surprise taxpayers in Lake County, Monticello, or many other Minnesota municipalities that the report concludes by saying: “I do not find economic benefits from municipal broadband in this empirical investigation based on data across towns and cities, I am unable to prove that municipal broadband yields any effect on changes in household broadband subscriptions, unemployment rates, or labor force participation rates.”
