FAIRMONT: No end in sight to 25 percent water bill hikes

Water prices are going up in Fairmont to pay for a new, well, water plant. The rate has been increasing by 25 percent since 2009, and officials say further hikes could occur in 2012. The new plant will be able to treat 5.4 million gallons per day. For reference, the average usage in 2010 was 1.4 million gallons.

“We have to design for a peak day,” said Public Works Director Troy Nemmers.
