Update: Serious Conflict of Interest
FFM’s investigation into a high-ranking Obama Administration official’s apparent conflict of interest regarding her business executive husband’s “green” company has already been covered by John Stossel on Fox Business, Glenn Beck on Fox News, the Wall Street Journal online,National Review, and many others. But there’s much more to come.
In the coming days, we will be releasing our full report of the investigation. The report is the culmination of several months of extensive research of public records, federal legislation, and media archives. It also contains a number of key documents obtained by FFM under the Freedom of Information Act. We believe the report makes a compelling case that Assistant Secretary of Energy Cathy Zoi – whose husband’s company has benefited greatly from stimulus programs overseen by Zoi’s office – has an apparent conflict of interest in her role as head of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
In case you missed it, here’s John Stossel’s story and interview with FFM regarding our investigation into apparent corporate cronyism in the Obama Administration.
And remember to check out FFM’s investigative video, The Obama Administration’s “Serious” Conflict of Interest. And, if you’re so inclined, please help spread the word about the story and help us bring true transparency to Washington.
Forthcoming FFM study shows out-migration of taxpayers exacerbates state budget woes
The latest state revenue forecast revealed a projected $1.16 billion shortfall in fiscal year 2011, 70% of which is due to lower income tax collections. But it’s not just the recession that’s to blame. A Freedom Foundation of Minnesota report to be released next Wednesday, February 10th will show how a staggering amount of tax revenue is flying out of the state. Literally.
For well over a decade, there has been a consistent out-migration of Minnesotans in search of higher temperatures and, significantly, lower taxes. Most disturbingly, even while the state continues to experience modest population growth in several preceding years, there has still been a net loss in income to state coffers due to the out-migration of taxpayers.
We’ll show you where taxpayers are fleeing and why, and examine policy solutions for this growing problem. Visit FFM online next Wednesday and look for an upcoming e-update to read this critical report.
FFM to host CATO Institute transportation expert Randal O’Toole March 25
A recent traffic congestion study by the Texas Transportation Institute confirms what Minnesota drivers have known for years: I-494 is the Twin Cities’ “highway to hell”. And unfortunately, 494 is just one of the metro area’s many traffic nightmares. So how do we address the region’s transportation problems without derailing taxpayers?
CATO Institute transportation expert Randal O’Toole will answer that question and discuss the folly of the Obama Administration’s hugely expensive plans to build {number} high-speed rail lines. O’Toole is one of the nation’s preeminent transportation policy experts and is the author of Gridlock: Why We’re Stuck in Traffic and What To Do About It. We’ll include event details in an upcoming e-update.
