Tickets selling fast for April 9 event with Mitt Romney and special guest Governor Tim Pawlenty
The Freedom Foundation of Minnesota will host former Massachusetts governor and 2008 presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Friday, April 9. Governor Romney will speak at a dinner sponsored by FFM and sign copies of his new book, No Apology: The Case for American Greatness. Special guest Governor Tim Pawlenty will join FFM and Governor Romney for the event and will also deliver remarks. FFM is honored and excited to host two of our nation’s most influential, compelling, and innovative public policy leaders on the same stage.
The event will be held at the Hotel Sofitel in Bloomington. There are a number of different ticket options available for this great event, and we hope to see you all there.

FFM hosts Randal O’Toole as state’s transit system continues to railroad taxpayers
CATO Institute scholar and transportation expert Randal O’Toole will be in St. Paul on Thursday, March 25 to discuss his new bookGridlock, as well as our state and nation’s growing transportation problems and misguided priorities.
O’Toole’s message could not be more timely, with the $1 billion Central Corridor light rail line all but inevitable and Northstar Commuter Rail recently launching its operations. (Check out FFM’snew analysis of Northstar’s first 100 days, which finds that the average taxpayer subsidy of just a single passenger’s roundtrip is a staggering $80.)

Racino group’s claims do not stand up to scrutiny
Racino Now, an advocacy organization led by former Senator Dick Day, recently launched its campaign to change state law to allow slot machines at racetracks. The group’s website and legislative kit tout their racino proposal as a major revenue generator for the state and a boon for the state’s horse industry.
However, analysis by FFM shows that several claims made by Racino Now are misleading and often based on a misinterpretation of economic and statistical data. Among other things, Racino Now dramatically overstates the horse industry’s economic impact in Minnesota and fails to substantiate its claims regarding the racino proposal’s economic benefits to the state’s farm economy
