LAKEVILLE: City to Outsource Electrical Inspections to Cut Costs Electrical inspections will no longer be handled by a city employee, saving the city some $77,000 over the next two years. The city council voted to contract with a firm that does electrical inspections for the city of Faribault.

YELLOW MEDICINE: They’re Back! Bounty on Coyotes Approved for Two Counties  Chippewa and Yellow Medicine counties are offering the first legal bounties on coyotes in Minnesota in 46 years. State law was changed this year to allow local governments to offer a bounty on legally taken coyotes.

LYLE: Heated School Board Meeting Results in Legal Actions Charges will not be filed against three women who were removed by Mower County deputies from a recent school board meeting. In another incident from the same meeting, a judge revised the conditions of a restraining order against a former school district employee and current Lyle city councilman which resulted from an alleged altercation with Superintendent Jim Dusso. 

ANOKA: County Board Finalizes Biggest Tax Levy Cut in State  County board members finalized a more than $8 million reduction in the 2012 property tax levy, a reduction of 7.43 percent. Anoka County Board Chair Rhonda Sivarajah said it’s the first time in more than three decades the county tax levy has declined.

GOODVIEW: City Relents and Opts for Federally Funded Sidewalks After weeks of turmoil, the Goodview City Council voted 3-2 to accept a $283,000 grant for nine blocks of new sidewalk leading to the local school. It’s part of a federal program called Safe Routes to School that’s aimed at encouraging more students to walk and bike to class. Dozens of residents have adamantly opposed the project.
