Local Gov't Accountability Roundup: 7/17/11

Here are a few of the latest Local Gov’t Accountability stories from across the state, including a disagreement between the DNR and a local Chamber, a two-county HHS merger, and schools borrowing money! 

JACKSON-  Two Counties Explore Merger of Health, Human Services 
Jackson County’s public health service is already shared with Cottonwood County, and its human services department shares a director with the neighbor to the north. Now the two counties are exploring the feasibility of rolling them all into one. Read more.

BEMIDJI-  Chamber says OK to fish without a license during shutdown, DNR says no
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says there’s no way to get around the state’s fishing license requirements during the government shutdown. Read more.

FOREST LAKE-  School district to borrow $15 million to pay bills
The board voted unanimously to adopt the resolution authorizing the aid anticipation borrowing of $15 million for cash flow purposes. Read more.

FARMINGTON- School board reinstates stipends amid concerns pay cuts send wrong message
The Farmington School Board voted July 11 to reinstate stipends to board members for attending certain meetings. Read more.
