The Met Council is voting next week on a bid to replace the existing cloth seats on existing light rail train cars with plastic seats. This $1.8 million contract is necessitated because transit officials have concerns about “biohazard incidents involving cloth seats” that have increased by 48% in 2019.
Frankly, I’d be much more worried about the two murders committed on light rail trains so far this year but I digress.
And, if we have millions of tax dollars already in the Met Council budget to spend replacing light rail train seats, perhaps those funds would be better spent ensuring the safety and security of paying passengers on the trains rather than replacing the existing cloth seats. Why? Because in a transit system that prioritizes the safety and security of passengers, thugs wouldn’t be allowed to excrete “bodily fluids” on the trains nor would they be allowed to threaten, harm and even kill passengers and workers.
Don’t take my word for what is happening on the light rail trains. You can watch the hearing of the Legislative Commission on Metropolitan Governance and hear first-hand about what is happening on light rail trains.
