Like many of you, I have a hard time watching the news these days.
In between watching CNN producers confusing Michigan for Minnesota and other fourth grade geography mistakes, I’ve noticed there has been several attempts to suggest that this COVID-19 pandemic is causing as many fatalities as our country experienced during wartime.
While we mourn the loss of every one of our fellow Americans due to the pandemic, it’s important to correctly acknowledge the actual loss of life during wartime.
As such, the Veterans Administration released the following sobering statistics on American lives lost in war:
- Civil War: 500,000 +
- World War I 116,000 +
- World War II 400,000 +
- Korean Conflict 50,000 +
- Vietnam War 89,000 +
- Total US Fatalities 1.2 million (VA est. since founding)
