The Willmar City Council approved the agreement with their new city administrator last week, but what caught the attention of some city council members was the $118,750 salary accompanying the new hire. Councilman Steve Ahmann suggested a probationary period, but to no avail.
During times of economic uncertainty for the state and local governments, handing out raises to new hires may not be viewed by the public as the best use of taxpayer funds. That will be up to the residents of Willmar, though.
