Willmar residents may need to brace for an electric rate hike as soon as this year. A proposed increase of 6.5% per year beginning this year for the next 3 years was presented before the Willmar Municipal Utilities Commission.

“The need for the increase is also due to changes made in the contract with Great River Energy, which supplies about half of Willmar’s energy needs. That change resulted in about a million dollar increase in annual transmission costs, General Manager Bruce Gomm said.”
